Week 5: Working Hard and Working Smart

Today’s Easy Task:

Ask ourselves how is the condition our heart as we pursue health and wealth? Are we okay with deceiving, stealing, cheating, and hurting to reach our health and wealth goals?

How to rock this task:

  • Check your heart as you read 1 Timothy 6:9-11

Today's Devotional:

Now that we know what we want in our lives in the next 5 years, we will check our heart and read 1 Timothy 6:9-11 as we work hard. We want to work hard for the right things. Hard work leads to profit and just talk leads to poverty (Proverbs 14:23). So when we are actively participating in the action steps of reaching our goals, we are fulfilling a purpose. To bring our opponents to shame, let our works be good, full of integrity, illustrate dignity and be full of wisdom (Titus 2:7-8).

It’s important to realize that we can’t wait until the conditions are perfect, before we sow our seed. Otherwise we could starve. So if the work we do failed us today, we shouldn't worry, but just start over the next day. There is a chance that we will succeed that next day and other days in the future as long as we continue to work and not give up.

Yes, the storms will come and it may ruin our seed. We can just build again! Yes, life can be unpredictable like the wind. However, the wind is out of our control so we should just do the best we can and remember that any action is better than no action at all. Remember we need to connect our actions to our goals, because faith without works is dead and dreams without action become nightmares (James 2:14-22).

Ecclesiastes 10:10 says if an axe is dull we would need to exert a lot of strength to cut, but if we are working smart we should make sure that the axe is sharpen.

Today’s Prayer:

God, You are victorious. We love You and thankful for You. Let Your glory shine in the heavens and earth. Give us today wisdom, knowledge and strength. Cleanse our heart, continually fill us with Your Spirit, help us put on the whole arm of God. Help us to work hard for the right things. Help us to work with character, model good works, be full of integrity, illustrate dignity and work wisely. Help us to build even when life is unpredictable. Forgive us for when we are disobedient, help us to obey You and follow Your instructions with our whole heart. Help us to forgive others. When our enemies surround us, we will not fear because God You are our protection. You deliver us from evil. God You give us the victory. Your name be lifted up forever. In Jesus Name, Amen.
